Dallas crime scene analyst killed in Fort Worth crash

Dallas police are mourning the death of a crime scene analyst who worked with detectives to gather crucial evidence for their cases.

Carmen Fletcher, 34, died last week in a horrific car crash in Fort Worth.

“Her job with the crime scene police was really her stepping stone. It was supposed to be temporary, but once she got into it, she just loved it. That it was just a calling for her, something she was meant to do,” said Lisa Miller, Fletcher's mother.

Miller said Fletcher's dream was to become a police officer.

Her mother always spoke to Fletcher on Friday evenings, Fletcher's day off, but not last Friday. A colleague asked her about it.

“That was around 6:25, 6:30, something like that, and I said, 'Well, I'll call her when I'm done,'” Miller recalled.

At the same time, her daughter was involved in a serious two-car accident at 5200 Bryant Irvin Road in Fort Worth, killing Carmen Fletcher.

“I try to get through the day and focus on her smile, her happiness and her zest for life,” Miller said.

Fletcher graduated from Mesquite High School in 2008 and earned a science degree from UT Arlington.

Since 2015 she has been working as a crime scene analyst.

“She loved her job, kind of a love-hate relationship, she hated a lot of things about it, but she really loved it. It was a passion. She was great at it,” Miller said.

She enjoyed going to Texas Rangers games.

“The last time we were there was in May and we gave her a Corey Seager shirt through the giveaway and she was super excited about it,” Miller said.

Fletcher was scheduled to accept the North Texas Forensic Association's Crime Scene Investigator of the Year Award at an event next week.

“She was nominated several times and finally I was told she was going to get the award without her knowing,” Miller said.

The accident is still under investigation.

“I want people to know what an amazing and kind person she was and to give her family a hug every day because tomorrow is not guaranteed,” Miller said.

Fletcher's funeral will be held at New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale.

Fletcher's funeral will be held Friday at First Baptist Church in Forney.
